The Giver - Becoming an Adult

Becoming an adult is a huge step to take. There are many responsibilities and independence involved with becoming an adult. I think on becomes an adult when someone learns that life is not all fun. You cannot blame everything that happens on your little/older brother/sister, YOU take that responsibility and say, I know I did it wrong. I’ll know better next time. They have to be mature enough to recognize that people mess up and you don’t go yelling and telling someone off whenever you get angry or upset. Also, you don’t want to be asking for money from parents or friends or saying, I just need a little help getting some groceries into my fridge. For example, in The Giver, the leaders of this group, or the parents of the family, have to take responsibility in their job, but also responsibility of their children. They work to get those groceries in and stay in the home they love. Additionally, there are many means to becoming an adult. It means that you have that responsibility that is necessary for becoming an adult and it also means that you are prepared for life .You know that you would be able to support yourself and a family if you wish. Becoming an adult means that you are prepared, ready and all set to go to continue your life and obstacles that come along. In addition to becoming an adult, I don’t really think that there is a specific age that people are no longer useful to the community. For example, in The Giver, the Elders observe the children to let them know and to make sure that they are ready for their assignment. So, those Elders are able to help in that community and some Elders can be Nurturers to help those kids being born. No one should be just considered a waste to a community. Everyone can help in some way, people will find a way to help eventually. All in all, becoming an adult is useful to yourself and your community in which you live in. You are useful in atleast one way even when you are old or even incapable of walking. In short, you can help in some way.

I truly agree with what you've said about becoming an adult! It was really convincing and true fact. I agree that if they become adults, then they shouldn't borrow money from their parents, because that's the time they should let their parents borrow their money. Also, the examples you gave from "The Giver" was supporting what you've said. Nice Job! =]
