Power, what do you think of it?

Power would have to be the ability to rise to the top and be able to accomplish something that has never been accomplished before. But power would also have to mean if you can handle the ability to make decisions on your own and learning from your mistakes. Though it may seem what I am defining would be our everyday lives, well they might as well be. People of all different ages and cultures are able to have power and it can come in many different forms such as being a leader in your school or being the president of a country. However, it does NOT mean that you can boss people around, that’s just what most people call rudeness. You cannot just throw power around or just have it handed to you. The world is here for development and that development, to me, should come in the form of variety,

In the Scramble for Africa game, we had to struggle to fight for the top. We had to try to get as much rolls of the dice as we could so we could get more land of Africa. You have to know what you need and thinking fast is key in the game of life. Also women suffragettes have been waiting a long time before they were able to get their power which came in the form of having a say in their world/community and having the right to vote. As many people know, there is always a struggle in getting what you want, to really succeed. You have to be able to work towards gaining power. In the Great Powers Game, we were just given our country rather than living up to it and earning that country, but I think that we were given the specific country for a reason. I don’t think that you can just climb your way to the top without a struggle or a care in the world.

Going to the top is not what I consider power IF you cannot respect that power. There is no way that you are going to gain respect when you can’t even respect the power you have achieved.

Population Project Recap

What are the three most valuable things you learned from Population Project? Why?

  1. How to organize data neatly and clearly. For example, putting together information for my research paper helped me because if I wasn't organized, then I would fall apart and same with the Excel program.
  2. I learned that India is one of the leading countries with tuberculosis and that helped me to be cautious in India and to recognize the signs and symptoms otherwise I could develop tuberculosis.
  3. Lastly, I learned how to stay calm in hard situations. If I hadn't stayed calm I would have rushed through the project and would have gotten a REALLY bad grade. And staying calm helps you understand your topic better so if you were asked what you did on your project, you will be able to proudly explain.

Sameness and Equality

Precise us of language is an important theme in the Giver. Why does Louis Lowry purposefully use the word ‘sameness’ instead of ‘equality’? Explain what the difference is in the meaning of the words. Then using the Giver and Animal Farm, cite the example of how we have seen each word used. Which author uses language more precicely?

Sameness is where everything around you is plain and nothing sparks your feelings or imagination. Everybody looks the same and acts the same. However, equality would have to be where everybody’s rank is the same or everybody is equal in value. I think that Louis Lowry uses the word ‘sameness’ because everybody does not have the same rank. Everybody is in a different level of education, right? Not everybody in the book acts exactly the same. However, everything around them is plain because there are no colors and nobody has any emotions in their world. Animal Farm was trying to use the word ‘equality’ is everybody has the same rank. However, they had the different groups or sections when people did noble work or did the most work. Their saying was “All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others”, which I interpreted as, they are the leaders meaning they have a higher rank meaning they are more equal. And then sameness is used in The Giver to represent that everybody can see the same thing and hear the same thing, but they don’t have the same level rank.

The Giver - Becoming an Adult

Becoming an adult is a huge step to take. There are many responsibilities and independence involved with becoming an adult. I think on becomes an adult when someone learns that life is not all fun. You cannot blame everything that happens on your little/older brother/sister, YOU take that responsibility and say, I know I did it wrong. I’ll know better next time. They have to be mature enough to recognize that people mess up and you don’t go yelling and telling someone off whenever you get angry or upset. Also, you don’t want to be asking for money from parents or friends or saying, I just need a little help getting some groceries into my fridge. For example, in The Giver, the leaders of this group, or the parents of the family, have to take responsibility in their job, but also responsibility of their children. They work to get those groceries in and stay in the home they love. Additionally, there are many means to becoming an adult. It means that you have that responsibility that is necessary for becoming an adult and it also means that you are prepared for life .You know that you would be able to support yourself and a family if you wish. Becoming an adult means that you are prepared, ready and all set to go to continue your life and obstacles that come along. In addition to becoming an adult, I don’t really think that there is a specific age that people are no longer useful to the community. For example, in The Giver, the Elders observe the children to let them know and to make sure that they are ready for their assignment. So, those Elders are able to help in that community and some Elders can be Nurturers to help those kids being born. No one should be just considered a waste to a community. Everyone can help in some way, people will find a way to help eventually. All in all, becoming an adult is useful to yourself and your community in which you live in. You are useful in atleast one way even when you are old or even incapable of walking. In short, you can help in some way.

Kids, Parents, Blogs, Feedback

Please analyze the above cartoon and post your ideas to your BLOG. As part of your analysis please address the following questions:

  1. What are the main visual elements?
  2. What issue is this cartoon about?
  3. What is the cartoonist’s opinion on this issue?
  4. What evidence in the cartoon supports your opinion on how the cartoonist feels?
  5. Why is this cartoon ironic?
  6. What other techniques could the cartoonist have used to make this cartoon more persuasive?

1a. The main visual elements would happen to be that they are eating the dinner table and that there’s a mom, dad, and a kid that all look unhappy. The parents have tall, long heads, while the kid has a football head, maybe the kid is adopted.

2a. The issue that this cartoon is about is that maybe parents are getting too lazy with their lifestyles and their kids. The kid took all the time to create the blog and to post what they have done in that day, each day, yet the parent just asks the kid what they did instead of taking the time to look at the kids’ blog. To see the effort that was put into making it. Basically, it looks like the parents just don’t FEEL like it, they would rather just HEAR about it.

3a. The cartoonist’s opinion on this issue would maybe be that his parents were more caring than this when he was young, but now parents have gotten too lazy to bother doing anything. Instead of reading about it on ablog, they would much rather just hear it and make it easier for themselves.

4a. First of all, the phrase really is what made me think that this was so. Asking the kid to just tell them what happened during the day, rather than looking it up. And the fact of the way that the cartoonist created his/her characters. They are large, per say, and they have long, uncaring faces, and just staring at the kid, waiting for him to tell them.

5a. This cartoon is ironic because as we speak, we are reading and creating a post on our own blogs, And this kid has created his own blog and asking his parents to look at it.

6a. The cartoonist could have made the parents sit/lie on a couch, eating their dinner, to show the emphasis of how lazy the parents are. The kid could be sitting, eating over a table, just a little neater than the parents, that way the parents look sloppier and uncaring.

BUT THIS COULD ALSO BE VICE VERSA BECAUSE THE KID COULD BE TOO LAZY TO EVEN BOTHER TRYING TO TELL THE PARENTS WHAT HE DID AT SCHOOL, HE IS TRYING TO GET THEM ON THE INTERNET SO HE DOESN’T HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT!

Newfangled Contraptions

Using examples from “The Euphio Question” and current events evaluate the statement:

“Do you know what a Luddite is? That’s a person who doesn’t like newfangled contraptions. Contraptions like nuclear submarines armed with Poseidon missiles that have H-bombs in their warheads, and like computers that cheat you out of becoming. Bill Gates says, “Wait till you can see what your computer can become.” But it’s you who should be doing the becoming. What you can become is the miracle you were born to work—not the damn fool computer.”

- Kurt Vonnegut

Vonnegut is right because, even though the people build the computers, there are thousands of people that do not build those computers and just sit around for the computer to do it for them. For example, calculators have taken over this era of math basically. A teacher of mine said that when she was a kid, people used to always use pencil and paper to figure out math problems. However, now, we are not so good at mental math because we expect the calculators to do it for us. As well as that, people also just have another excuse for war when they have those nuclear bombs and “newfangled contraptions” that can destroy anything that gets in their way. People could become something better if they didn’t have the constant worry of what’s going to happen to them next. For example, the Americans in Iraq are using weapons and what-not to help defend themselves and to destroy places in Iraq and vice versa.

Introduction to Technology

  1. What is technology?
  2. How do you feel about the amount of and use of technology in schools?
  3. What are the 5 most and 5 least important technologies used today?

  • Technology is basically tools that helps us develop into the future. Technology in the new era is mostly electronics, however, technology doesn’t necessarily have to do only with electronics. Technology also helps people become more comfortable and get things done quicker.
  • I personally feel okay about technology in our school. Our school is very developed, because, honestly, I don’t really like to write on and on, but I do not mind typing on and on. So that really does help a lot. However, there’s that little thing called, malfunctioning. Whether the computer is being slow or won’t respond, that can not help in any way for somebody, especially not make it quicker.
  • The 5 Most Important to Me:
    1. Laptop
    2. Cell Phone
    3. Pencil/Pen/Eraser
    4. Camera
    5. iPod
  • The 5 Least Important to Me:
    1. Plastic Surgery
    2. That robotic vacuum cleaner
    3. McDonald’s toys
    4. Laser toys
    5. Mug Comfort Holder thing

End of Quarter 3 Feedback

Go back and review your goals for quarter three in humanities. These can be found in the January Archive of your BLOG in a posting titled,” End of Quarter 2 Feedback”. Evaluate how well you have achieved those goals. Include specific evidence from the quarter to validate your evaluation.
In addition to your evaluation please create three specific goals that you have for quarter four in humanities. Remember that a good goal is realistic, measurable and specific. List them at the end of this BLOG entry. Please title this entry: End of Quarter 3 Feedback

My Quarter 3 Goals:
I want to read 30 pages a day of my AR books.
I want to get atleast 25-30 points in AR.
I want to ba able to plan out everything I will do for UBD, so I dont get behind on ANYTHING!

For the first goal, I know, sadly, that I did not achieve this goal because at one point homework became too much and I wasn't able to stay up for too long. I would read a lot on the weekends to try and make up, but for the most part, I was not able to.

For the second goal, I also did not achieve that because I had planned out wen I was going to read a specific amount of pages, but since the due date for AR was shortened, I could not take the quiz, and I did not get 25-30 points.

And lastly, I think, so far, I have been able to keep up with UBD, I have already come up with my creatie expression and gone on the field trip for it, and for the Independent Investigation, I have already taken a class on how to make a bilingual brochure. So, for right now, I am handling UBD pretty well.

My New 3 Goals:

1. I want to, first of all, keep up with what I am doing with UBD. Keep looking at that calendar!!!

2. I would like to read more because I know that we will not have AR this quarter, but for me, I would like to read more than I ususally do, which is really not that much.

3. Lastly, I want all classwork to be finished as soon as possible. Nothing should be late or even hav to be excused. Also meaning I don't want to have a sick day, otherwise I am going to et behind on both my schoolwork and UBD.

Oxymorons

An oxymoron is two words that don’t belong being used together. Why is the phrase “Holy War” an oxymoron? Why is it that so many conflicts in the world today are based upon religious differences yet all major world religions condemn killing?

I believe that the phrase "Holy War" is an oxymoron because something holy is something that belongs to a religion and a war is something that religious people say they shouldn't do. They are told not to kill. So the phrase "Holy War" means a war where the people are fighting for their religion when their religion is saying not to.
War is, in all, killing so you will be going against your religious bases for your religion. That doesn't quite make sense to me and the sentence is basically being contrasted.
Now, I believe that so many wars are based on religion because, well, they think that the more they fight, the stronger their religion will be. However, that's not necessarily true. The religions could be fighting for the publicity of their religion, for more people to join, or they could be doing it to help their religion stay strong. Also, this doesn't necessarily mean that they are proud of themselves. They could, the whole time, be thinking that this is a shameful act, but if they keep it up, it might be able to help whatever their need is. So, the people could be thinking they are part of this religion by trying to help, but at the same time, they could be thinking they are not part of their religion for fighting in war. I think it all depends on their thinking of how devoted they are.

Cold War Simulation

1. Which country were you? What strategy did you use to try to win?
2. Who won the game and why? Who won the “real” Cold War?

Answers:
1a. My country was one of the superpowers: the USSR. Well, at first, we were trying to get as many of the military, economic and food aid as we could get because we figured that we would want all the people possible n our side. However, that backfired at us because we did not buy enough Space Racers to support ourselves. The USA decided to bomb us with nuclear bombs, which they had quite a lot of, so they were able bomb us quite a few times without us being able to support ourselves. After that, we tried to buy A LOT of Space Racers, yet it turned out that we STILL did not have enough Space Racers to defend ourselves, which pretty much made us go just about bankrupt.

2a. Who won the game, you ask? Well, I believe that nobody won becuase the USA, even though the USA was able to keep as many points as they could, and they were able to bomb us with nuclear bombs, and they had MORE points then us, I still do not believe that they won by themselvs. For example, the USA was able to get a lot of alliances, however, the USSR was able to steal most of those alliances from the USA because we were able to give better deals. So, I believe that nobody won in this simulation. Now, in the real Cold War, I believe that the US won because they were able to stand their ground and they got quite a few countries to become capitalist democracy. The USSR however, was only able to get about four countries to become communist and they eventually gave up and said, you know what, we need to get our economy back on track so we have to let the US export goods into our country. So overall, I really do think that the US won because of the reasons stated above.

Describe the general process (from idea to completion) for creating a video using Visual Communicator. What are three design related tips to remember when creating a VC presentation? What were the two best and two worst aspects of the conflict video project?

To create a visual communicator, you have to choose the topic that you would like to talk about( Vietnam War). And so, then you want to create your script, which you'll hear about a little later. Then you really want to create a storyboard. It will help you so much when it comes time to put in those effects!

Now, to get started, you have to bring up the screen that lets you choose the format that you would like for your presentation. Then, you yourself select what you would like in your presentation, and you're just about ready to record. So, first you have to auto set the green/vc screen by clicking the tab for visual. But don't forget that nobody can be in the picture while you auto set it! Now, you want to copy and paste your script into the body. After that, you should choose which actions you want to show up while you talk. For example, you might want to change the background, so you click on the effects tab and choose the action that you would like to show up. Then, you can also move around these actions to get it precisely how you like it. Then, after you have rehearsed and think that you have got it, you're ready to record! Now, after you record it and you think it's perfect (or close enough to perfect) you're all set to publish. After you've published, don't forget that you have to save, don't just exit!!!

The best two things about a VC presentation is that you actually look like you are there where you want to be instead of just looking awkward. For me, it's the best system that can give that effect. Also, it lets you put what you want into your presentation. You can choose your music( out of a selection that they give you of course) and you can choose how professional you want your presentation to look or even if it is just for a little kid presentation.

Now, the worst two things about the visual communicator is that you may have problems with the V-Screen and the camera. You sometimes really have to deal with it or you can try and adjust as well as you can but there's no guarantee. And then, sometimes, if you make a mistake, it's really hard to go back and try to fix it. For example, I'm talking about if your setup isn't correct(your name or the PROFESSIONAL background, not the picture that you choose for a background).

ADVICE: ... For the visual communicator, if you choose to display a background picture that you choose, you would want to save that picture on the desktop before trying to put it inside the visual communicator storyboard. It can become very complicated.
Now, do not choose a picture that it's too small to see because if you try to enlarge it, it is going to become very pixelated and you really do not want that for a professional presentation.
Lastly, don't forget that you want to create everybody's script and presentation separately. Out of my own personal experience with my group, we kept losing our info so we decided to do everything consecutively instead of having to put everything together. Now, if one person messes up, you have to start all over, and let me tell you, IT'S NOT FUN. You really have a hard time because if you mess up, that's your grade, you have to keep going. You get to that point where you don't really want to care anymore.
So, this is my advice, whether you take it or not is not my problem, but it would be really beneficial for yourself and your group(if you have one).

Animal Farm Book and Movie

To start off, I didn't think that the movie was at all like the book. I mean, of course it had the same concept in mind, but there were a huge list of items that were very different from the book. For example, in the very beginning, when Farmer Jones was having Boxer pull along a contraption for a part of the land, Jessie (a dog) came down running a knocked over Farmer Jones because he was hurting Boxer. In the book, nothing like that happened. The book started off with Mr. Jones closing for the night and that's when all the animals were gathering for the meeting (pg 1). Jessie wasn't even mentioned in the beginning. Also, for myself, I hadn't pictured Old Major the way he was in the book (slobbery and just plain disgusting). By the way the author described Old Major, I imagined him clean, well-fed, but not that fat because of the way that he was so respected (pg. 1). A little later on in the book, I also didn't know that Mrs. Pilkington went into Farmer Jones' room for the night. Another reason that I found the movie very different from the book would be that when they were supposed to sing "Beasts of England", (pg. 7), the animals sang "Beasts of the World". When Old Major died in the book, it seemed to have been that he died of natural causes, (pg. 9), whereas in the book, Old Major died by being shot. In the book, Mrs. Jones never went to visit her sister. When the rebellion happened, the animals had forced the people out on their feet, (pg. 12), while in the movie, the humans had left the farm in a car. It also wasn't just Farmer Jones that had left, there was Mr. Pilkington and a few others as well. As well as all the people leaving together in the car, I had never read that Mr. Jones ever had "gatherings" with other people. I also did not read about Mr. Jones and the others ever going to a pub and telling anyone what had happened with the Rebellion.
Now, later on in the book, I hadn't read that Pincher (a dog), had gone to a ceemony to be declared a "guard" of Napoleon. Also, after the people were kicked off the farm, the people placed michrophones and wires in the house/farm. I especially never remember Jessie's puppies being taken away from her and even when she tries to get them back, she is forced to go back and not to try and see them again. When Mr. Pilkington was trying to bring up trade with Napoleon, Mr. P never offered any of the pigs whisky. He would always just trade and leave the farm. Now, relating to the windmill, in the book, Mr. Jones did not blow up the windmill with dynamite( pg. 47). When Napoleon decided to slaughter the animals, he had done it through a movie in the movie while in the book, it was flat out explained that he did it in plain sight for all the animals( pg. 56, 57, 58). Once again, all the animals hear news through a movie. For example, when Squealer was talking to the animals about the horse slaughterer whereas in the book, it was told directly to the animals( pg. 82). As, you can see, the movie was created very diferently from the book. Even though you see many reasons stated here, there are many more explanations that could have been given if I didn't want to bore you.

Skit for the Vietnam War

Good Morning from CNN News. I’m Grace Koclar reporting to you from New Delhi, India about the Vietnam War. The unfortunate event of the Vietnam war was caused by the two different needs of governments in the North and South. Almost 60,000 soldiers killed and more than 300,000 wounded in the sixteen year war. The Vietnam war took place in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia between the North Viatneamese with the National Liberation Front and the United States on the side of the South Vietnamese. The war began in 1959, only a few years after the country received its independence from France. The North was anti-French and fell under Communist rule, while the South was ruled by those who favored the French. America sent in soldiers in 1965 to help keep the South from falling, but the U.S. did not manage to prevent this and Vietnam became a single country in 1975. The country became the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Between three and four million Vietnamese died during the war, as did approximately two million Loa and Cambodians.

Animal Farm Comparison

With which character in Animal Farm do you most closely identify? Using examples from the novel (and a proper in text citation) justify your comparison.

I am most like Squealer because I love to talk a lot and I usually spread word around for people, such as messages or notes ( Orwell, pg. 51). Squealer makes a lot of noise whether it's just a noise or talking, so that's another reason that I am like Squealer, I love to make a lot of noise (Orwell, Squealer's name). Lastly, I like to get into the details no matter it be the spreading of word or if I'm just talking to friends ( Orwell, pg. 59).

The King is Dead! Long Live the King!

In a well written posting to your blog, compare your experiences over the course of the last week in King Coyle’s room with those of the colonists prior to the American Revolution. Be sure to use specific events from both the Kingdom of M1 and the 13 Colonies to build a convincing comparison. Make sure you include the words tyranny, injustice, and self-determination in your post.

Well, I think that it was really unfair with all the taxes. For all the normal things that you use in every day life, it is pretty unfair that you had to pay for all of them. Clothes, jewelry, BRACES, etc... King George III did the same thing that King Coyle did. King George III did the Stamp Act, the Townshend Acts and even the Quartering Act for all the soldiers that he kept for his own army without the people (colonists permission). And I guess you could see a little bit of the Stamp Act in M1 because, if you wanted to get one of your assignments, you would have to pay for it and then pay for it to turn it in. When we wanted to turn our journals in, we had to pay for each page that we wanted to turn in and then the rubric.
It was really unfair, but it really did make me see the hardships that the people went through. But, when we were actually doing it, we didn't compare Royal Coyle to King George III.
The people of Mr. Coyle's classes were treated unjustly by having to pay every tax and then taxation without representation, and that's unfair! But people were determined to not pay the taxes. Some people even had 130 dollars in debt! Now that is what I call self-determination. But Mr. Coyle was a tyrant or showed tyranny. He totally took over the people in the classes just like the colonists for his own good. To get money out of the people and to keep his power. But now... the king is dead!!!

Feedback of the 43rd War

1a. In what absolute location do you think The 43rd War takes place?

I think that this book takes place in El Salvador because the volcano Atlacatl is located in El Salvador. (Atlacatl Battalion). I also think it takes place in El Salvador because Uno is Christian and Lolo has a cross around his neck. The percent of Christians in El Salvador is 83 %. (El Salvador). And lastly, I think it takes place in El Salvador also has many jungles and in the book, the author always used the jungle when they were in their drills. (Central America Travel).

2. I think the author was vague about the location because it keeps you thinking about the book. She did this by giving clues as to where it was and the location of some certain places. But, I don’t think that she had a real reason for doing things. Sometimes the best books are done by accident.

Decleration of Independence Summary

When it becomes necessary for a country to declare a separation with another country, you should give reason for why you declare your independence. The colonists believe that its obvious that all people are equal and that they have the rights of Life, Liberty and to have the right to happiness. Governments get their power from the people. When any part of the government that starts to take away the rights of the people , the people have the right to change or take away the government or to make a new one. While people have the right to change or alter governments when theyre not doing what they’re supposed to be doing, that it’s for the right reasons , not just however or whenever. It’s they’re duty to get rid of that government. The colonies have suffered enough and now its necessary for us to alter the former Systems of government. King George III has damaged colonists, caused injuries and here are some of the reasons how he caused these injuries.

King George III did not obey the laws and they were made for the better of the public good.

He didn’t allow the government to pass laws that would help the colonies.

He has judged by hisself the people , for the time in their offices, and the amount of money they make.

He made armies without the permission of the legislatures.

He constructed the Quartering Act in which his troops stayed in our homes.

He stopped our trade with other countries in the world.

He put taxes on items without our (the colonists) permission.

He has taken our seas, burned our towns, he has taken the items in our ships, and destroyed the lives of many people.

Every time he did one of these bad things, we asked him to stop. We only asked him of these things when he hurt us. He is not fit to be a king. He is a tyrant. Not only did we talk to King George III, but also to the British legislature and told them why we came to the colonies in the first place. But nothing changed. Those of us that are gathered here, are saying that we are free! We promise to work together and make this happen.

Snake Feedback

What are the main visual elements?

--- One of the main visual elements is the snake cut into pieces. And then there are the abbreviations for eight of the thirteen colonies on each piece of the snake. And then under the snake is the phrase “Join or Die.”

What issue is the political cartoon about?

--- The issue is that the political cartoon is about is that if the colonies don’t join to whatever the government wants, then they get exterminated.

What is the cartoonist’s opinion on this issue?

---I think that the cartoonist feels that this issue was a very strong issue and that it was negative. I say this because the snake is cut up and it has the initials of eight colonies on it.

What evidence in the cartoon supports your opinion on how the cartoonist feels?

--- Like I stated previously, the snake is cut up and it has the initials of eight colonies on the cut up pieces. And I’m thinking that the initials that are on the snake are the ones that didn’t want to join and they were executed.

What other techniques could the cartoonist have used to make the drawing more persuasive?

--- The cartoonist could have made the “join” part lowercase and then have the DIE all uppercase, so there’s more emphasis on DIE. I would have put bright colors on this drawing because it would catch somebody’s eye and you could put emphasis on parts that you wanted emphasis.

Great Powers Game Debrief

1q. Which country were you? How did it feel to build your empire? Which countries had the advantage at the start of the game? Why? How did you empire compare to other empires?

2q. In the long run was it more important to buy armies, navies, industries or colonies? Why?

3q. What did you do well? What would you have done differently?

4q. How successful were your alliances? Did they help or hurt you? Could they be trusted?

5q. What are three specific things you learned about conflict from this simulation?

  • 1a. I was the Austrian- Hungarian Empire. The countries that had the greater advantage in the beginning was USA, Great Britain and maybe France. Well I think they had the greater advantage because they are the bigger countries, and having the bigger countries they can do more and they have more power. My empire was actually pretty good compared to a couple of others. For example, Italy, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. And Japan seems to be a pretty powerful country, yet it came in last place compared to my fourth place. But, I was nothing compared to the USA. But wen I went to war against him, I actually won.
  • 2a. I am really undecided on this question. I think it is pretty equal. If you want to get a lot of economic points in this game so you can buy more, than sure get industries and colonies, but if you are going to declare war, you should buy armies and navies. However, since there are a limited amount of colonies, you should get them in the beginning, especially before people have enough armies and navies to declare war against you. But, the down side of navies is that two of them only equal one navy, so I ended up not getting any.
  • 3a. I think something I did well was keeping treaties and then making treaties. I was able to declare war and then people would back me up so I could win and then I would give them their fair share. But something I cold've worked on would be managing the amount of economic points per year that I got, meaning how I used them. I think I bought too little armies and that's why I had to have so many alliances.
  • 4a. My alliances ended up helping me a lot. I went to war against a couple of countries, and they backed me up a lot. And I backed them up and I ended up getting a couple of industries out of it. So yes, they did help me out a lot. Well, Russia, Italy, Germany, I could trust, but when France broke their alliance with USA, I was a little nervous on if he would break our treaty. And then the Ottoman Empire I cold pretty much trust, but I still had a slight doubt about it.
  • 5a. One thing would be that conflict can happen all over the world, not just what you hear on television or what made it into history books. Secondly, there can be conflict in alliances. When France stopped the treaty with USA, USA got pretty upset and wanted to declare war against France. And thirdly, I learned that economic power and political power are not the same things. You can have one or the other or both. So you can use all your economic power to declare war and that shows that somebody is rich and powerful and BOOM, there's another historical war . So using your different powers is very resourceful when there's a war/conflict.

Quarter 3 Goals for Myself

Go back and review your goals for quarter two in humanities. These can be found in the October Archive of your BLOG in a posting titled,” End of Quarter 1 Feedback”. Evaluate how well you have achieved those goals. Include specific evidence from the quarter to validate your evaluation.

In addition to your evaluation please create three specific goals that you have for quarter two in humanities. Remember that a good goal is realistic, measurable and specific. List them at the end of this BLOG entry.

Well, one of my goals was to learn how to write a good research paper and I think I can say I learned how to do that because that was one of our studies in Humanities.

Another one of my goals was to read more. I like to procrastinate on reading and i achieved that because I was able to read the Da Vinci code in about two and a half weeks.

My last goal was to learn more about Imperialism because I basically knew nothing about it. And I did achieve that goal because, well I did a whole socartaic seminar on Globalization is cultural imperialism and i was able to debate all through that.

So I achieved all of the goals that I set for myself.

Now, Im setting my goals for quarter 3.

  1. I want to read 30 pages a day of my AR books.
  2. I want to get atleast 25-30 points in AR.
  3. I want to ba able to plan out everything I will do for UBD, so I dont get behind on ANYTHING!
